Day 1: Bucharest - Bran (150 km)

Bran castle Bran

Arrival in Bucharest and departure to Prahova Valley, with its area called Rucar–Bran pass, the birthplace of rural tourism in Romania. Here lies also the famous Dracula’s Castle ( Bran Castle ). Built in 1377 , the famous Bran castle and its legends represent a plus for this captivating region.

Here you will discover a virgin nature remembering Switzerland , a traditional civilization, the possibility of tasting the specific food: the traditional Romanian plate (polenta, ham, spiced cottage cheese made in Bran by the peasants, onion, home-made sausages, bacon, mosaic salami) accompanied by the famous Romanian "tzuica" . All this in the comfort and the standards not below the standard provided by the regular hotels. Home-made dinner and accommodation in a typical rural gueshouse in Bran.

Day 2: Bran - Brasov - Bran (100 km)

In the morning you will visit the Dracula's Castle in Bran, which is built on the top of a rock. Vlad Tepes used this castle as headquarters for his incursions in Transylvania. For the Romanians this castle is linked to the image of the most beloved queen of Romania: Queen Mary. Afterwards visit the Rajnov Citadel, a Saxon fortified citadel from the XIIIth century.

Departure to Brasov, one of the most beautiful medieval towns of Romania. Visit the historical center: The Black Church , St. Nicolas church, the Council Square , the Schei , an old neighborhood , the Gateway Catherine separating the Romanians from the Saxons in the period of Austro Hungarian occupation. You will also admire the panorama of the city from the top of the hill on the way to Poiana Brasov, a beautiful mountain resort. Return to Bran, dinner and overnight in the same rural guesthouse.

Day 3: Bran - Voronet (370 km)

The morning departure for Bucovina (Bukovina), the region of 2000 monasteries, painted monasteries , monuments listed by UNESCO . On the way visit the Prejmer Citadel, the oldest and largest in Transylvania. Then you will cross the Turda Canyon and go to Piatra Neamt and Suceava, the capital of Moldova during Stephen the Great.

In the afternoon you can visit the Citadel of Suceava, Which has walls of defense 10 meters high and 2 meters thick and in every corner tower defense, entered the citadel by crossing a bridge pillar. Here Stefan cel Mare ( Stephen the Great ) died . The evening arrival at the heart of Bukovina , where you will have a special dinner consisting of homemade dishes. Accommodation in a rural guest house in Bucovina (Bukovina).

Day 4: Bukovina (100km)

Full day dedicated to . The monasteries Voronet Sucevita , Moldovita, Humor, whose exterior walls are painted, each with its own color and decorated with frescoes dating from the outside 15th and 16th centuries, are considered masterpieces of Byzantine art and are unique in Europe . Their paintings of complete cycles of religious scenes were a real Bible for the illiterates. Visit Moldovita and Sucevita monasteries then Humor and the famous monastery Voronet, The " Sistine Chapel of the Orient " with its color " blue of Voronet " founded in 1488 by the ruler Stephen the Great.

In the afternoon you can participate to a special demonstration, a famous tradition of Bukovina :eggs hand painting .After you can visit the village of Marginea , known for its black pottery, whose tradition is inherited from the old Dacians (the inhabitants of Dacia ). Dinner and accommodation in Bucovina (Bukovina).

Day 5: Voronet - Vadu Izei (250km)

After breakfast departure to Maramures, rural area full of charm, famous for its villages. Here the traditions are still alive, the people always cheerful dress in colorfull costumes, the windows and the doors full or ornaments and the famous wooden churches seem to reach the clouds.

Also here you will find the last European forestry railway "Mocanita" since 1930 that offers a wonderful ride on the Vaser Valley over a distance of 56km. Here you can also visit the wooden churches of Bogdan Voda, Botiza, Rozavlea and Ieud with their ancient frescoes and icons on wood and with their typical slender towers. Ieud is the oldest church in Maramures, since 1364. Later we cross the valleys of Iza and Mara, real outdoor museums of rural art.

Day 6: Maramures (150km)

In the morning visit of the most beautiful monastery of Maramures, the complex of Barsana, a true paradise. Here we encounter an artisan still realizing wooden traditional doors. Then direction to Sapanta where there is one of the most interesting cemeteries in Europe - The Happy Cementery and nearby the wooden church of Sapanta, the highest in the area.

In the afternoon we cand visi the Ethnographic Museum and the Communism Museum in Sighetu Marmatiei or have a simple walk in this picturesque area. Back to the guesthouse, home made dinner and overnight in Maramures.

Day 7: Maramures - Crit (275 km)

In the morning departure to Sighisoara, the birth town of Vlad the Impaler and also the most beautiful medieval city of Romania, a fortress inhabited since 1300, surrounded by turns and bastions.

In the afternoon arrival in Crit, an old charming Saxon village, located in an area of protected nature and biodiversity, the ideal accommodation and starting point for exploring the medieval Saxon fortified churches as well as the surrounding areas.

Accommodation and "slow food meal" in a lovely restored farmhouse in Crit.

Day 8: Crit

Transylvania Transylvania

The whole day you will discover the wild nature of Transylvania. Not Transylvania of the vampires and of the legends but the country of nature, the virgin countryside. Here you can watch the bees with a guided visit to the beekeeper, or have a trip on the horse carriage over the hill crossing the meadows and the forest, towards a neighbour Saxon village, to visit the ancient fortified church, have a walk or go by bicycle to visit the surroundings or if you come in the good period go to truffles hunting. Dinner with “slow meal” and accommodation in the same farmhouse.

Day 9: Voronet - Sibiel (400 km)

In the morning departure to Sibiu. On the road visit of Biertan citadel - an example characteristic of fortress-church-family, one of the 300 strengthened churches built between XIVth and XVIth centuries. The citadel of Biertan, placed in the top of the hill, just in the middle of the village, is defended by triple walls, six turns and three bastions. Even nowadays, one of the three entries in the church has 19 locks.

In the afternoon arrival in Sibiel, a charming village sheltered like in a caldron by the feet of the mountains in the area called Marginimea Sibiului ( the surroundings of Sibiu ). In this area, abundant in tradition and culture, you can discover a marvellous relaxation place, at the feet of the mountains. Dinner and accommodation in a typical house in Sibiel.

Day 10: Sibiel - Sibiu - Sibiel (50km)

Sibiu Sibiu

Visit of the medieval city of Sibiu: The European Cultural Capital in 2007. Tour of the historical center: the Huet Square , the Big Square, The Little Square with his House of Luxembourg , the Brukenthal Palace , one of the most important Baroque monuments in Romania , the Council Tower, the Iron Bridge , the Evangelical church etc.

In the afternoon you can enjoy the pristine nature of Sibiel by hiking in the Carpathians or you can visit the Museum of Glass Icons in Sibiel with its large collection of icons - over 700 copies. Dinner and accommodation in Sibiel rural guesthouse.

Day 11: Sibiu - Bucharest (300km)

After breakfast departure to the Olt Valley where you can admire the magnificent panorama and visit the Cozia Monastery in Wallachian style " Brancovenesc” ( Constantin Brancoveanu ) . Then visit the Monastery of Curtea de Arges with its famous legend.

The afternoon you arrive in Bucharest. Panoramic tour of the capital: the Parliament Palace ( the biggest building in Europe) , the Royal Palace Cotroceni , the Revolution Square , the University Square , the Church of the Patriarchate , the old commercial district of Lipscani the historic center etc. Dinner in the historical center , in a famous traditional restaurant with music and dance in Bucharest. Accommodation in Bucharest 3* small charming hotel.

Day 12: Bucharest

In the morning (depending on flight schedules) free time and transfer at the airport.
